MediaTek has expanded its mid-range portfolio with the quiet introduction of two new 5G-enabled chipsets: the Dimensity 7450 and Dimensity 7450X. These processors are designed to bring high-end features, including 200 MP camera support and advanced artificial intelligence, to more accessible smartphone segments.

Both chipsets utilize an octa-core “big.LITTLE” configuration. The cluster consists of four Cortex-A78 performance cores clocked at up to 2.6GHz and four Cortex-A55 efficiency cores. Graphics are handled by the Arm Mali-G615 MC2 GPU.

A key highlight is the integration of MediaTek’s 6th-generation NPU, which delivers a 7% improvement in efficiency for AI-driven tasks. This enhancement specifically benefits computational photography and system-level optimizations. In the imaging department, the Imagiq 950 ISP supports sensors up to 200 MP. It includes hardware-level Precise Noise Reduction (MCNR), face detection, and video HDR, alongside support for Google Ultra HDR to maintain high-fidelity light intensity data.

Gaming and Specialized Design

For mobile gaming, the chips feature MediaTek Adaptive Gaming 3.0 technology. This system monitors device thermals and operational status in real-time to balance visual quality with performance, ensuring stable frame rates while preserving battery life.

While the technical specifications are nearly identical, the distinction between the two models lies in their intended form factors. According to industry reports, the Dimensity 7450 is optimized for standard “slab” smartphones, such as the Motorola Edge and OPPO A series. Conversely, the Dimensity 7450X is specifically tailored for foldable devices, such as the Motorola razr and OPPO Find lines. This specialized variant is expected to debut in the upcoming Motorola razr 70, scheduled for release later this week.

Motorola razr 60’s successor could be one of the first devices to get MediaTek’s new SoC Dimensity 7450X

Connectivity and Support

The platform supports modern memory standards, including LPDDR5 (up to 6400 Mbps) and UFS 3.1 storage. Connectivity is robust, featuring 5G download speeds up to 3.27 Gbps, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.4. Display support ranges from WFHD+ at 120Hz to Full HD+ at 144Hz, providing manufacturers with flexibility for various screen configurations.
