MediaTek has officially introduced the MT8875, an advanced Internet of Things (IoT) platform engineered with native 5G connectivity and dedicated hardware for on-device generative artificial intelligence. Tailored specifically for commercial, industrial, and enterprise environments, the chipset enables complex real-time data processing, allowing edge systems to execute low-latency, automated decision-making without relying strictly on cloud infrastructure.

Manufactured on TSMC’s power-efficient 4 nm process node, the silicon features an octa-core architecture configured with four performance cores alongside four efficiency cores. The key evolution lies in its onboard neural processing unit, which delivers over 12.8 TOPS of compute throughput for generative AI tasks. This capability more than doubles the AI performance of the previous-generation MT8873, providing sufficient horsepower to run standard modern large language models (LLMs) directly at the device layer.

In commercial scenarios such as smart retail, the platform is designed to power interactive digital signage, dynamic menu boards, and self-service kiosks, delivering fluid user interfaces and responsive automated interactions. The chip accelerates automated product recognition and inventory data capture, streamlining operational workflows and minimizing manual labor.

Connectivity has received significant upgrades under the 3GPP Release 17 standard. The MT8875 incorporates three-carrier aggregation (3CC) across bandwidths up to 220 MHz, achieving peak download speeds of 5.14 Gbps. In addition to supporting Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7, it offers optional Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) satellite connectivity to maintain operational integrity across isolated deployments outside regular cellular coverage.

For multimedia and peripherals, the hardware supports high-resolution displays alongside camera configurations of either a single 32 MP sensor or dual 16 MP sensors at 30 frames per second. Extensive peripheral support includes USB 3.2 dual-mode, PCIe Gen 3, and essential industrial interfaces such as I2C, I3C, UART, and I2S. MediaTek continues to broaden its portfolio alongside mobile platform developments, expanding integrated intelligence into mission-critical edge applications.
