Sony has introduced the Reon Pocket Pro Plus, the latest iteration of its wearable personal climate control device (check out our in-depth article about the Reon Pocket Pro covered at CEATEC 2025). Designed to be worn around the neck, the smart accessory uses thermoelectric technology to provide direct cooling or heating to the user’s body, offering an alternative to conventional personal cooling methods.

The device serves as an upgrade within the Reon Pocket product line, promising enhanced performance over previous versions like the Reon Pocket 5. According to Sony, the new model delivers more intense temperature control, improved stability, and extended battery life.

When compared to the original Reon Pocket Pro I, it delivers a 20% boost in cooling efficiency (up to 2°C colder surface temperatures) via an evolved thermal algorithm. It improves upon its predecessor’s ergonomics with a re-engineered “Adaptive Hold” neckband that offers 40% greater holding stability, alongside a redesigned, adjustable exhaust vent that makes it easier to wear discreetly under layered clothing. Additionally, the Pro Plus updates its bundled environmental tracker to the Reon Pocket Tag 2, which is 18% smaller and features a more durable loop attachment instead of a plastic clip.

Technology and Performance

The wearable utilizes the Peltier effect—a thermoelectric process that alters the temperature of a metal plate in direct contact with the skin. Positioned against the back of the neck, the device targets a strategic area for temperature regulation. Sony states that the Reon Pocket Pro Plus can achieve temperatures up to 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit cooler than its predecessor. To maintain continuous cooling over extended periods, the device utilizes two alternating thermal modules, supported by a built-in fan designed to assist with thermal dispersion.

Updated sensors allow the device to automatically adjust its temperature settings based on ambient conditions and the user’s physical activity levels. It features both a “Smart Cool” mode for warm environments and a “Smart Warm” mode for colder climates. Additionally, Sony has redesigned the neckband fins to improve grip and prevent the device from shifting during movement or exercise.

Battery Life and Availability

Battery performance has been upgraded, with the manufacturer claiming up to 15 hours of operation in Smart Cool mode, or approximately 10 hours under more intensive cooling settings. Users can manage temperature adjustments using physical side buttons or via the official Reon Pocket smartphone application.

The Reon Pocket Pro Plus is scheduled for an initial release in the United Kingdom and selected European markets. A launch date for the United States has not yet been confirmed by the company.
