Xiaomi has officially showcased the Xiaomi 18 Fold at IFA 2026 in Berlin, providing the first physical look at the upcoming wide-aspect foldable smartphone ahead of its scheduled release. Displayed in an exclusive cherry red finish, the flagship marks a pivotal strategic milestone as Xiaomi’s first commercial smartphone powered by its proprietary XRing O3 processor, underscoring the brand’s expanding push into custom silicon development.

Beyond the in-house system-on-chip, the hardware integrates high-performance memory architecture. Xiaomi confirmed that the foldable incorporates next-generation LPDDR6 RAM developed by ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), which reaches data transfer speeds of up to 12,800 Mbps to accelerate multitasking and intensive on-device processing.

Physical inspections of the display unit at the trade show highlight a revised aesthetic and camera configuration:

  • Wide-screen profile: Employs an expanded horizontal footprint that aligns with evolving industry form factors seen in competing foldables.
  • Triple-camera array: Features a refined rear module indicating an optical focal range spanning 17mm to 80mm, pointing to an ultra-wide sensor alongside an estimated 3.3x telephoto camera.
  • Flagship thermal and chassis design: Balances internal hinge mechanics with a sleek profile suited for everyday pocket carry.

The announcement positions Xiaomi in direct competition within the premium folding sector as manufacturers shift toward broader outer displays that mirror standard smartphone aspect ratios when closed.

The Xiaomi 18 Fold serves as the centerpiece for Xiaomi’s largest European exhibition footprint to date. Spanning more than 3,300 square meters, the showcase highlights over 380 interconnected devices supporting the brand’s comprehensive “Human x Car x Home” smart ecosystem, which includes automotive technology, robotics, and the European debut of its Mijia smart home line.

Xiaomi confirmed that the Xiaomi 18 Fold will officially launch in China on September 7, with comprehensive technical specifications, hardware variants, and broader international commercial availability expected to follow the formal presentation.

First Sample Images

Xiaomi has shared initial camera samples from its upcoming Xiaomi 18 Fold, offering an early evaluation of the flagship foldable’s photographic capabilities.

The optical array is developed through Xiaomi’s continued partnership with Leica, which handles calibration and color tuning across all sensors. The rear setup is anchored by a high-resolution 200 MP primary sensor, accompanied by a 50 MP telephoto lens delivering 3.5x optical zoom, alongside a secondary 50 MP ultrawide camera.

High-resolution promotional images published by Xiaomi partner and president Lu Weibing highlight a distinct approach to low-light photography. Rather than artificially overexposing shadows, the camera pipeline preserves scene-accurate warmth, suppresses corner noise, and balances high dynamic range naturally. This tuning strategy favors natural contrast and intimate low-light ambiance over aggressive software brightening.
