After months of anticipation, Apple has officially announced the HomePod mini 2, introducing the next generation of its compact smart speaker. Maintaining the familiar height and retro-illuminated touch surface of its predecessor, the new model integrates advanced hardware, fresh color options, and powerful AI capabilities.
Internally, the HomePod mini 2 is powered by the S10 chip and features Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology for precise device proximity detection. For enhanced connectivity, the device supports Bluetooth 6 and Wi-Fi 6E.
The standout software feature is full support for Apple Intelligence and Siri AI. This integration provides deeper context to user requests, transforming the smart speaker into a proactive assistant that goes beyond pre-defined voice commands. When paired with a compatible iPhone or iPad, the device can securely interact with cross-application data—such as finding a recommended song sent in a message or setting location-based reminders. Furthermore, Siri AI enables more natural conversations, real-world web-based queries, and more accurate music recommendations. Apple emphasizes user privacy, processing requests on-device or via Private Cloud Compute to ensure data security.
The device introduces several physical and functional upgrades. Sound Glow causes the top surface to pulse and glow in real time, reacting dynamically to bass, treble, or album artwork colors. Users can also configure a surround sound system using four HomePods alongside an Apple TV 4K, with automatic room calibration. Additionally, the new speaker can function as a native audio output device for a Mac. For smart home management, the device supports voice-controlled automation and Sound Recognition to detect emergency alerts like smoke alarms.
Available in five color options—blue, white, midnight, and brand-new green and pink finishes—the HomePod mini 2 is priced at $150 in the United States.
