The other day, Corning unveiled their latest Gorilla Glass which comes in the form of Victus. This is supposed to be the company’s toughest Gorilla Glass yet, but of course the company would say that, right? Turns out that they weren’t just making empty claims, at least that’s what the video above by PhoneBuff has confirmed.
A lot of our smartphones and tablets rely on glass covers to help protect the phone’s display components from being damaged. This means that these glass covers need to be really tough to withstand the daily rigors of usage and the occasional drop, and Corning thinks that they might have made the toughest version of Gorilla Glass to date.
You’d want the displays on foldable smartphones to be robust because one can only imagine what the repair cost on those screens would be. Corning has a long history of providing manufacturers with durable cover glass under its Gorilla Glass brand. The company has now revealed that it’s developing a bendable version of glass which will be well suited for smartphones with foldable displays.

With the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, it saw Samsung choose to use Corning’s latest Gorilla Glass 5 display, which by all accounts should be tougher than its predecessors. However a testing conducted by YouTuber JerryRigEverything found that the Galaxy Note 7’s display can be easily scratched with a pick with a level 3 hardness on the Mohs’ scale.

[CES 2016] When we mention Corning, most of the time one would think of Gorilla Glass, as that seems to be their most popular export. Dr. Jeffrey Evenson, Corning’s SVP and CSO, shared, “As we extend the technical and design capabilities […]

We’ve seen metal used in the construction of phones, and if the rumors are to be believed, Apple could be introducing the use of sapphire for its display as well. This is apparently because sapphire is an extremely hard material that makes it extremely difficult to scratch, unless you use a diamond. We’ve also heard rumors that Kyocera was considering the use of the material themselves, but what about other OEMs? […]
Let’s face it, our hands are not clean, neither are our faces, especially when you’re out all day either at work or school, and there are only so many times we can wash our hands on a daily basis. Even then there’s no stopping friends, family members, or strangers with grubby hands to grab at your smartphone, ultimately “soiling” its display with germs and bacteria. It does sound pretty gross […]
