CES 2007 – There are tons of portable navigation systems available in the market, but you can be sure that Chinese manufacturers seem to be able to give you the best price although build quality might be a little suspect. Traipsing down the International Conference showfloor, I chanced upon the Beond booth who are offering a slew of portable GPS devices that will be available sometime at the end of March. All their GPS systems come with music and video playback functionality, featuring displays that measure anywhere between 2.5″ to a more generous 4.2″. Maps are provided via SD cards from TeleAtlas and Navteq. One gripe would be the use of USB 1.1 ports across all new releases – such a connection speed is painfully slow in this day and age. Hopefully compromises such as these will be offset by a much cheaper price tag
