This is interesting news. EA Games currently lists Mass Effect 3 and Battlefield 3 under a “handheld/mobile” category. Does that mean those respective games are coming to the 3DS and NGP? Not quite. As Kotaku notes, the games could be spin-offs for the series and it’s still unclear which systems or devices “handheld/mobile” refers to. For all we know, it could be a game for an Android smartphone or iPhone. It could even mean Sony’s upcoming PlayStation S1 and S2 tablets.

My immediate guess would be the 3DS and NGP, only because those handhelds are quite powerful to pull of the graphics that both Mass Effect 3 and Battlefield 3 would want to maintain. The NGP is most definitely capable of handling BF3, considering it’s nearly as powerful as a PS3.

As they say, all will be revealed in due time. Let’s just hope EA lets the cat out of the bag at E3! The sooner the better.
