Wanted: A piece of software that can install iOS 5 on the original iPhone, the iPhone 3G and the first generation iPod touch without having to perform a jailbreak. Look at what the cat dragged in – WhiteD00r, which answers the clarion call, where this particular piece of genius coding will enable all of the new iOS 5 features such as multi-tasking, reminders, iCloud, and homescreen folders amongst others – all without the need to perform a messy jailbreak. The big question is this, how did the Whited00r development team actually pull this off? They more or less constructed a custom version of Apple’s official iOS 5, which was specially catered towards the ARM6 range of Apple devices including the iPhone 2G & 3G, in addition to the first and second generation iPod touch.

All you need to do is download the IPSW firmware, install it via iTunes in the same way that you do to other regular software updates, and you are good to go. Just bear in mind that with WhiteD00r 5.1 running, there is no Notification Center, and neither will you gain access to the App Store. For those who are willing to give Whited00r a go, head on here.
