We’ve had a number of jailbreaks for iOS 5.0 in the past, but they all left the phone in a tethered/semi-tethered state – which basically meant they wouldn’t be fully-functional when restarted without a computer. Well, it looks like those days are almost over because pod2g, an iOS hacker, has successfully developed a fully untethered jailbreak for the operating system. Uploading a video on YouTube, he demonstrated the phone booting up and fully-functional without the use of a computer.

It wasn’t mentioned when pod2g will be releasing the jailbreak to the public, so I guess we’ll just have to sit tight for now. In the meantime you can follow pod2g’s Twitter account for updates or stay tuned to Ubergizmo and we’ll keep you posted. Check out the video demonstration:
