We all do know that consumer electronics and water do not mix, especially mobile gadgets such as tablets, portable media players, digital cameras, and smartphones. Having said that, it does seem as though Nokia is currently looking into the possibility of rolling out waterproof Lumia as well as PureView handsets in the future. Conor Pierce, VP of Nokia Western Europe, said this about the technology, “What happens when a drop of water lands on a lotus leaf… has baffled scientists for generations… but our team in Cambridge UK found a solution. Nano technology lets us do it. Superhydrophobic technology makes water bounce, it stops it, rolls it off the device and leaves it water impregnant, that’s the magic, that’s what we’re going to bring to the party.”

Got to love the idea of a superhydrophobic coating covering your entire handset. This does not mean you can now make calls underwater or to send text messages while you are scuba diving, but at least is will be able to survive for some time when under the rain, making it ideal for camping trips as you need not worry about the handset short circuiting itself out as you take some time off from the hustle and bustle of the city.
