It will be one month away before folks living in Japan will be able to get hold of the Toshiba 55XS5 that does not come with 3D technology for your eyes to feast upon, but at the very least, it will feature a 3840 x 2160 LCD panel. There is no local dimming here, but rather, edge LED lighting will see action. I guess this is a souped down version for those who are on a tight budget and feel that 3D movie viewing is not the thing for them just yet. If you want to rip the Toshiba 55XS5 apart, expect to discover the CEVO Duo image processing engine within that will upconvert your standard HDTV resolution inputs to QFHD, not to mention carry apps of different sorts in addition to supporting USB hard drive connectivity. No idea on how much it will cost in the US if and when it arrives, but folks living in Japan can pick one up for approximately $9,410 after conversion. Is that kind of money well worth the value for the additional pixels that your eyes can feast upon? [Japanese Link]
