The concept of freelance journalism has been around for quite a while now, but what if you wanted to hire a writer but you weren’t sure if they were reliable or affordable? This can be the dilemma that event organizers can face, especially if they’re a small event that does not have the budget or the clout to invite big time journalists to cover their events.

Well Microsoft is hoping to change that through a project they are calling “Eventful”. Basically it’s like freelance journalism, except that Microsoft is hoping to turn it into a service as easy and straightforward to use, and as reliable as order an Uber ride. It’s a platform in which event organizers or small time blogs can use to hire a journalist to cover events that are taking place, either in a different state or in a different country.

All you’d have to do is fill up a form looking for a journalist, specify the date and time of the event, and the address of the event, and Eventful will do the rest for you. Journalists and writers who are part of Eventful will be able to obtain these “missions” and submit their work to their employer on the fly while at the event. For example if you wanted photos of a certain product photographed, or interview attendees, make a short video, and etc., those can be included as part of the mission.

Once it’s all be done, the report will be then sent back to you, the hirer, who can do what they please with it. It can be published on your website, shared on social media, sent out to friends and family, and so on. It’s an interesting concept and if you’d like to learn more, check out the video above, or head on over to Microsoft’s Fuse Labs’ Blog for the details.
