xperia z2 wireless chargingAs far as we can tell, the Sony Xperia Z2 is one heck of a smartphone. It packs a pretty nice display, an excellent camera, and hardware specs that could potentially rival other flagship phones from competing Android OEMs. However if there is one feature that it is lacking, it would be wireless charging.

Now not everyone needs their phones to have wireless charging, and it isn’t exactly a must-have feature for most people, which might explain Sony’s decision to omit the feature. However if you are the type that loves the convenience of wireless charging, Sony has announced the Wireless Charging Cover WCR12 and the Wireless Charging Plate WCH10 that brings wireless charging to the Xperia Z2.

The cover itself is pretty simply and straightforward and sports a pretty elegant and professional-looking design. It also acts as a kickstand so that you can prop your phone up to watch videos or surf the web in landscape mode, and most importantly it adds wireless charging to your Xperia Z2. This means that with the cover on, Xperia Z2 owners will be able to place their phones on a Qi-compatible wireless charging mat and they’ll be good to go.

If you already own a wireless charging mat, then we guess the wireless charging plate from Sony might not be for you, but if you don’t, then the WCH10 will allow you to wirelessly charge your smartphone as long as it supports the Qi wireless charging standard. Pricing and availability of the WCR12 and the WCH10 remain a mystery for now.
