jetdrive liteThe thing about upgrading storage on your MacBook Pro or MacBook Air is that it can get pretty expensive, making you question whether or not you even needed that upgrade in the first place. Well if you do need additional storage but you’re unwilling to pay Apple that much money just to get additional space, you might be interested to learn that Transcend has recently introduced a new JetDrive Lite expansion card that has been designed for the MacBook Air and Pro in mind.

One of the perks of the JetDrive Lite is that it is a low-profile design, which means that unlike inserting memory cards into the MacBook’s SD card slot, it will not stick out, so you don’t have to worry about it getting knocked loose or damaged when you bring your laptop around with you.

According to Transcend, “When inserted into the card slot of a compatible MacBook Pro with Retina display or MacBook Air, the low-profile JetDrive Lite will not stick out like an SD card and can be left in place for on-the-go storage.”

It is also priced somewhat decently at $49 for the 64GB version and $99 for the 128GB version, although we should note that some models won’t be able to use the 128GB card. For example the 13-inch MacBook Air and the 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro can use either the 64GB or 128GB models, while the 13-inch MacBook Pro will only be limited to the 64GB option.

The JetDrive Lites have a max sequential read speed of 95 MB/s, while the max write speed is at 60 MB/s, which we reckon should be sufficient for day to day use. Transcend’s JetDrive Lite expansion card is currently available for purchase, so if you’d like to learn more, it up their website for the details.
