You might have noticed that Sony has been quite active in getting out the Android 4.4 KitKat update for its Xperia smartphones. At times it has even released the update for multiple devices on the same day. Sony Xperia SP owners would probably be wondering when the lucky day is going to come for them. Unfortunately that’s not going to happen. Sony has confirmed that it has no plans to release a Sony Xperia SP KitKat update.

The company has separate support pages for its devices where it lists the software version with which the device launched and the last and final version of the software. It has tweaked the Xperia SP’s support page and has effectively declared that this smartphone has reached its end-of-life as far as Android OS updates are concerned.

Sony Xperia SP came with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean preinstalled. It has been stuck on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean for a while now. Those who have the device, and many do since its one of Sony’s popular mid-range devices, might be wondering when the KitKat update will be released.

Sony’s update to the page clearly indicates that Android 4.3 Jelly Bean is the latest and final version of the OS for this particular device. Therefore it won’t do you any good to keep your fingers crossed any more, the company has spoken. If you want a taste of KitKat, you have to get rid of the Xperia SP and buy a compatible smartphone.
