nest-homeHomes are starting to get smarter and smarter, thanks to a slew of ever improving technology, and it seems as though there is always room for betterment. Case in point, Nest’s thermostat alongside its Protect smoke detector will be able to do their part in order to help automate one’s home, and it seems that the next logical step to take would be to expand support of its Works with Nest program to include a slew of home automation gear from the likes of Control4, Crestron, RTI and URC. In layman’s terms, if you happen to own one of the mentioned systems, then you will be able to integrate various Nest equipment alongside home theaters and lighting, among others.

Not only that, Nest will also be able to work alongside Dropcam’s collection of Internet-connected security cameras, being able to allow these cameras to react to what the Nest equipment is up to. Assuming your thermostat indicates that there is no one at home, then Dropcam will automatically turn on motion sensing to make sure that any unwanted intruders will be captured. As for the Nest Protect smoke detector, it can inform Dropcam to record a brief video in order to show that there is, indeed an actual fire that is going on.
