Truck drivers are often asked to haul goods over long distances and usually have deadlines to meet, which means that many of them resort to staying up late at night in order to reach their destination in a timely manner. This also means that there are some of them who are sleep deprived which could potentially lead to fatal accidents.

Well Mercedes-Benz is hoping to change that. The company has recently announced that they have built a semi-truck that is capable of driving itself. While it will not be the same self-driving cars that we have been hearing about, it should be good enough to take on the highway.

The truck will use a combination of dual cameras, sensors, and blind-spot technology that will be able to analyze the road and get a sense of surrounding traffic. From there, drivers will be able to kick back and relax and put themselves in a more comfortable position that lets them, rest better. Of course this does not mean that they get to sleep, but at least it beats gripping the steering wheel for the next few hours.

To alert drivers that the truck is on autopilot, the front LED of the vehicle will change from white to a pulsating blue. Mercedes-Benz actually unveiled the Future Truck 2025 a few months ago, but it seems that in the latest video, the truck has undergone a slight redesign. As we noted then, it exists more as a concept rather than an actual product, but hopefully in the future it will be made a reality.
