There are many video games out there that when you’re shot or sliced or hit by a spell, you bleed. It’s normal, it’s basically just a sign to indicate that you have been damaged, but what if your bleeding in the game translates to bleeding in real life? Is that a game you would want to play?

Probably not, but what if it were for a good cause? Well that’s the idea behind the Kickstarter project Blood Sport. The goal of Blood Sport is to donate blood, but to do it in a way that is fun and distracting, so that you won’t have to sit in the chair and think about the blood flowing out of you while you donate.

The idea was conceived by a group called Brand & Grotesque. How it works is that instead of your controller hooked up to a rumble mechanism, it is hooked up to a machine that draws your blood. The amount of blood drawn will be controlled via Arduino and a medical expert standing by to ensure that not too much is drained.

Sounds a bit weird and outrageous, doesn’t it? We have to admit that we thought it was a hoax at first, but according to its creators, this is done to raise awareness about making blood donations and we have to admit that it is a pretty interesting idea. If you’d like to learn more, you can head on over to its Kickstarter page or its website for the details.
