SLT-A99_wSAL2470Z_1-1024x768If you’re a Sony fan and if you’re wondering when Sony might announce a new high-end camera that could potentially compete with the Canon 5DS, it seems that you might be getting your answer in the next few weeks if the rumors are to be believed. According to a report from Sony Alpha Rumors, word has it that Sony has a 50MP camera in the works that is due for an announcement soon.

The upcoming camera is said to be competitor to the Canon EOS 5DS and will utilize a sensor of Sony’s own make. At this point the details on the camera are a scarce so it is unclear if we could be looking at an E-mount camera which could be the rumored Sony A9, or if we might be looking at one of Sony’s A-mount cameras.

Assuming the former is the case, it will be interesting to see an E-mount camera pack that many megapixels. The announcement has been scheduled for April or May so we guess we will find out in the next few weeks if the rumor pans out. In the meantime like we said before, megapixels aren’t everything.

They might come in handy for photographers who like to closely crop their images or if they plan on making prints, but then again if you do have the money (the Canon EOS 5DS starts at $4,000) to drop on a 50MP camera, chances are you might be using it for professional reasons. Either way take it with a grain of salt for now and check back with us in the near future for the details.
