google logoIt has become a rather badly-kept secret that Google is working on a service in which it would basically act as a carrier, offering customers the ability to make calls, send text messages, and even subscribe to data plans like what one might expect from an actual carrier. The question is when will this alleged service be launched?

The good news for fans of Google and for those searching for alternatives to current offerings is that the announcement of Google’s wireless service could be made as early as tomorrow. This is according to a report from The Wall Street Journal in which their sources have told them that the service might be launched this Wednesday.

So why would anyone want to sign up with Google’s services, you ask? Apparently one of the ways Google will set itself apart from the competition is to allow customers to pay as they go with regards to data usage, meaning that if you’re a light user, then you only pay a little bit, but for users who consume a lot of data, then you pay more.

This is opposed to current carrier plans in which users pay for a fixed amount of data which expires at the end of the month, regardless of whether the user has consumed all of it. Google’s service is also said to run on T-Mobile and Sprint’s networks in which it has the ability to swap between either carrier depending on which offers up better reception. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but do check back with us tomorrow to see if there are any announcements to be had.
