Blizzard’s upcoming MOBA is one that’s a long time coming. In a scene where titles such as DotA 2 and League of Legends are dominating, safe to say that Blizzard’s Heroes of the Storm could be potentially a bit late to the party. The game was previously in beta although the good news is that Blizzard has since officially announced its release date – the 2nd of June.

Gamers who did not get into the alpha or the beta will be pleased to learn that in a little over a month’s time, they will be able to play it officially. However even better news is that Blizzard has also confirmed that an open beta testing period for the game will kick off on the 19th of May, so if you’re trying to decide if this is for you, the 19th of May is when you’ll want to check it out.

The game itself will be free to play, like Hearthstone, however if gamers want to unlock more heroes and their skins and various other cosmetics, they’ll have to pay for it. This is similar to the revenue model employed by the likes of DotA 2 and League of Legends, but it will remain to be seen how much Blizzard will be able to make from it.

In the meantime gamers who have been playing the game in its closed beta will also be pleased to know that Blizzard will not be wiping their progress. This means that whatever you’ve done and earned so far will carry you through the official launch. This will apply to gamers who participate in the upcoming open beta as well.
