Uber, a truly global ridesharing service, today announced a promotion with Samsung in line with the company’s recent launch of two new flagship handsets, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. The new partnership will see the Uber app for Android being featured at the top of the Galaxy Gifts widget on the new handsets, and in return Uber will take Galaxy S6 owners new to its platform on a free ride.

As is the case with most promotions there is a caveat. The promotion is only limited to Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge owners in the US even though Uber already provides its service in a multiple countries across the globe.

The promotion is limited to people who are new to the Uber platform, so if you enter a credit card that’s already in the Uber database, you won’t be able to take advantage of this offer.

Uber is capping free rides up to $25, so if your first ride exceeds that amount, you will have to pay the difference yourself. Uber does say that this promotion will be expanded to other countries in the coming months.

Samsung released the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge on April 10th. Both devices are believed to be performing quite well in the market, even though they’ve initially been released in 20 countries only. Samsung will release the handsets in more markets in the very near future.
