ok googleBack in April, we reported that Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge owners were complaining that the “OK Google” hotword detection appeared to have gone missing on their handsets. The feature was still available but only if it was used within Google’s search app, as opposed to from before where it could be used/activated from any screen.

Well the good news is that recently users have started to notice that the update has returned to their phone. According to an update provided by Google community manager, AJ, “Now, we are happy to share that the “From any screen” function has been fixed for S6 and S6 Edge devices on the Google Search App (GSA), and the fix is actively rolling out to users.”

Google has also seemingly confirmed that the initial problem was due to a compatibility issue with S Voice, Samsung’s answer to Google Now and Siri. Google also notes that if you were to enable “OK Google” hotword detection on your Galaxy S6/S6 Edge handset, you could run into issues with S Voice.

If for whatever reason you find that S Voice is better assistant to you than Google Now, you will have to manually disable “OK Google” from the settings to keep using S Voice. So Galaxy S6/S6 Edge owners, have you received the update that fixes this issue for you?
