tablescape-1When it comes to looking at photos of food on your phone or web, Instagram is usually a good place to go. However earlier this year, Google tried to take them on by introducing an app/service called Tablescape. As it turns out it seems that the platform was not particularly popular, so much so that Google has decided to call it a day on Tablescape.

According to the folks at Android Police, it seems that Google has started to send emails to its testers informing them that the service would be shutting down. According to the email, “Thanks for helping us test the Tablescape app. We received a lot of helpful feedback but decided to invest our resources into other projects. This doesn’t mean we’re giving up on food photography, you may see the influence of Tablescape in future apps.”

This will no doubt be a bit of a bummer for users who were looking forward to checking it out themselves upon its launch, but we suppose it just wasn’t compelling enough of a project for Google to keep pouring resources into it. For those who are learning about Tablescape for the first time, it is a platform that allows users to share photos of food and to browse photos of food from around the world.

It will help users discover new types of food and possibly new restaurants in the process. It’s an interesting idea albeit rather niche since there are plenty of other platforms and services one could find new restaurants from, but either way we suppose that’s the end of that.
