Microsoft announced a new program today for the Xbox One at its E3 2015 press conference in Los Angeles, the program is going to allow you to play titles for the console that are still being developed. This will allow gamers to essentially be beta testers of in-development games and their feedback can then prove useful for developers as the put the finishing touches on those titles. It’s called Xbox One Game Preview and Microsoft has confirmed that this is launching today.

If you know what Steam “early access” is, you probably don’t need to look for detailed explanations of Xbox One Game Preview, because it’s more or less the same thing.

PC gamers have long been able to play games that are still in development and provide developers with feedback to improve the end result.

The fact that Microsoft has brought over this feature to Xbox One as Game Preview shows that the company is bringing some of the biggest advantages of PC gaming to its platform. Other announcements made today include backwards compatibility for Xbox One with Xbox 360 and access to mods.

Xbox One Game Preview goes live today, initially it will provide early access to two games, Elite Dangerous and The Long Dark.
