If you own a Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge on AT&T then keep your eyes peeled for an update notification because the carrier has started rolling out a new software update for both devices. Before you get too excited allow me to be the bearer of bad news, it’s not Android 5.1, the update I’m sure many of you have been waiting for.
AT&T is certainly taking its sweet time to deploy Android 5.1.1 even though some of its rivals have already sent out the update to folks who own these devices on their network.
Today’s update changes the software build number for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge on AT&T from OE2 to OF3 and doesn’t bump them up from Android version 5.0.2.
This software update weighs in around 230MB and it’s not immediately clear what changes AT&T has included in it, so far it has not even published an official changelog so it’s hard to say exactly what’s going on here.
It’s not unusual for carriers to roll out such updates without really saying what they’re all about, this seems like one of those updates.
AT&T has started rolling out the software update over-the-air today, it should go live for all users across the country in a day or so max.
