It has been rumored for a long time that BlackBerry could launch a handset that’s powered by Android, in fact the company’s first flagship device for 2015 is expected to come with Google’s mobile OS. Recently the BlackBerry Passport Silver Edition was launched and while it runs BB OS 10 some images have appeared online which show the device running Android. Does this mean BB tested out prototypes of this handset with Android?

The question remains though is BlackBerry going to launch an Android powered version of the Passport Silver Edition or was this just a prototype that appears to have been leaked?

For all we know these images could be elaborate fakes, this has happened in the past as well, it’s not that hard to fake such images since BB OS 10 is capable of natively installing and running Android apps. A launcher app can be used to fake such an image.

There do appear to be some signs though that these images are not faked, we can see the device powering off in one of these images which wouldn’t happen if a launcher was being used, but then again there’s always the possibility that someone used Photoshop to cook these images up.

BlackBerry has never really denied the idea of moving towards Android, if the rumor mill is believed it may just be a matter of time before the company starts churning out Android handsets.
