Google has been hard at work developing improvements to make Hangouts simpler, faster and more easier on the yes. The company says that with Hangouts it wants to help users stay in the moment no matter what device they’re using or if they’re texting, talking or sending a video message. It has released an overhauled Hangouts app today which brings some of those improvements.

Hangouts 4.0 is now sleeker since it has been updated with Material Design elements, there’s a completely new look and feel and items are more responsive to the touch with new transitions that makes tasks more fluid.

There’s a new Compose button which makes it much easier to start a new group or individual conversation with the streamlined contacts list making it easier to find the right contact quickly. Attachments have been revamped to make sharing of GIFs, emojis, your location as well as multiple photos a snap.

Google says that the new Hangouts is faster than its predecessor, it has “obsessively fixing bugs” and speeding up message delivery so that the app is more faster and reliable while consuming less power from the battery.

Hangouts 4.0 is rolling out to Android users today and it will be available via the Play Store in a short while, iOS users have received many of these updates already.
