One of the features that Google has been introducing to its apps is Smart Reply. Basically for those unfamiliar, this is where the feature suggests replies to messages based on the content. We’ve seen this feature applied to Google’s email services, and last we heard, Google was interested in bringing it onto more of its platforms.

If you find the feature particularly useful, then you might be interested to learn that Google has since introduced Smart Reply to Hangouts Chat. According to Google, “We’re bringing Smart Reply to Hangouts Chat so you can respond to teammates quickly and move projects forward more efficiently, in less time. This launch is part of our ongoing effort to bring intelligent, assistive writing tools to all of G Suite.”

“Smart Reply in Hangouts Chat uses sophisticated machine learning intelligence, similar to that behind Smart Reply in Gmail. Our technology recognizes which messages most likely need responses, and proposes up to 3 different replies.” Note that Hangouts Chat should not be confused with regular Hangouts (which is now being referred to as Hangouts Classic) despite both of them being text-based chat platforms.

Hangouts Chat is Google’s take on Slack and at the moment is aimed at enterprise users, although Google has since stated that regular users and users of Hangouts Classic will eventually be migrated over to Hangouts Chat.
