Last year when Apple announced the iPad Air 2, they also announced the iPad mini third-gen, but in all honesty the refreshed specs felt more like an afterthought as opposed to being a genuine upgrade. However thankfully if the rumors are to be believed, this year’s iPad mini is expected to be a pretty decent refresh.

In fact according to a recent tweet by @OnLeaks, he has suggested that based on leaked schematics that the upcoming iPad mini 4 will be the thinnest version yet. According to the leaked designs, it has been suggested that the iPad mini 4 will measure 6.1mm thin. This is versus the 7.5mm of the current model.

This is actually a huge change as Apple has basically shaved off 1.4mm from its thickness. While 1.4mm might seem small, we suppose this is something that can be felt if you were to hold it in your hands. The iPad mini 4 has also been rumored to sport the same specs as last year’s iPad Air 2, but given the iPad Air 2’s specs, that’s not necessarily be a bad thing.

However that also means that it will run on the A8 processor versus an A9 variant which is what Apple typically uses for its iPads, since the A9 processor is expected to debut in this year’s iPhone. There have also been rumors suggesting that this year’s iPad mini could be its last, but we’re really hoping that isn’t the case.
