Over the past few years there has been a significant change in the way people consume music, CD sales have declined as music streaming becomes more popular with each passing day. This shift has provided a lot of leverage to music streaming services who are taking full advantage of their popularity to link up with artists so that they can do better than the competition, for example Jay Z’s streaming service Tidal is going to be the exclusive home of Prince’s next album at launch.

Music streaming services teaming up with artists is nothing new, just recently Dr. Dre launched his first new album in over a decade exclusively on Apple Music. It’s safe to say that we’re going to see a lot more of this in the years to come.

Prince is launching a new album called HITNRUN with his band 3RDEYEGIRL next month and it will be available exclusively on Tidal. In a statement released to the media Prince said that after one meeting it was obvious that Jay Z and his team at Tidal “recognize and applaud the effort” that musicians put into their work.

Tidal must have really appealed to Prince considering the fact that recently he removed his entire catalog from streaming services like Spotify and even Apple Music.

Prince’s new album is called HITNRUN and it will be released exclusively on Tidal come September 7th.
