Micromax isn’t a household name in the United States and for good reason, it has no presence in the west despite the fact that it’s the largest smartphone vendor in India which as we all know is a very lucrative market. According to a new report published today, after conquering the Indian smartphone market Micromax is now mulling a possible U.S. debut next year.

Even though it’s an established leader in India’s smartphone market that doesn’t necessarily mean that Micromax will see the same kind of success in the west, particularly the United States. You don’t need to look any further than Huawei and Xiaomi, both of them are seriously big in China but not quite so much in the U.S.

The Information reports that Micromax recently considered launching its premium Yu smartphone brand in the United States by sometime next year but has apparently still not made a final decision. Yu smartphones retail for about $200 in India and run on Cyanogen’s custom version of Android.

Price isn’t the only factor that Micromax needs to consider before entering the U.S. smartphone market, where consumer behavior is quite different as opposed to India, the method of smartphone sales and distribution even more so.

It’s not going to be an easy road for the Indian company should it decide to take its chances with the U.S. smartphone market.
