Surprised? You shouldn’t be, since 2014 saw a whopping 11,000 people make their way to Madison Square Garden to watch a “League of Legends” championship, while ESPN showed off their “Heroes of the Dorm” video game tournament, and this is just the beginning, with the likes of Twitch (that now allows you to view on your mobile) and video game YouTube channels fast catching on.
I suppose the older generation out there will start to question the feasibility of watching video games on TV. After all, they happen to be more accustomed to the likes of real sports – such as baseball, football, soccer, and the likes, but video games? There is always a paradigm shift from generation to generation, so this is no different, and we are all for celebrating diversity in the realm of sports, never mind that the only sweaty parts of an e-athlete would most probably be the palms and armpits.
