sign-language-gloveThe speech and hearing impaired segment of the population might find it rather challenging to communicate with the rest of the world, but this does not mean that they are in any way lesser than the best of us. With tools like the SignLanguageGlove, things are certainly going to look up for them – especially since the SignLanguageGlove will be able to give voice to the hearing and speech impaired group. How does it work? It will boast of a handful of sensors that can convert hand and finger movements into text as well as spoken dialogue, now how about that for being future forward?

The creator of the SignLanguage Glove, Ayoub, is currently looking into the very real possibility of including real-time language translation to the entire setup. Wi-Fi should be part of the glove as well, allowing its motion to be relayed. Right now, the current model comes with five flex sensors that will help to monitor the bends and curves of each finger, while an accelerometer will detect the orientation of the glove.

Ayoub, an Arabic, French and English speaker herself, hopes that should the SignLanguageGlove end up as a commercial product, schools and businesses would be the first to purchase them for students, patients as well as employees that have speech and hearing impairments. The estimated cost would amount to approximately £255 a pop. This is not the first time that something like this has happened, and it certainly will not be the last. [Press Release]
