Sonos today confirmed that it’s opening up pre-orders for the flagship Play:5, the company has also confirmed the release date for this product when it will be available for sale immediately online and through retail stores in the United States and across the globe. Sonos says that it has “elegantly designed” the Play:5 smart speaker to ensure that it delivers the best possible yet from a Sonos product, that’s a big claim and customers will surely be putting that to the test when this product arrives.

“The new PLAY:5 delivers a listening experience that is closer than ever to how every track was mastered in the studio,” it’s claimed, with the speaker touting six synchronized custom-designed drivers and three mid-woofers to create smooth mids and powerful lows. Three tweets ensure that highs are crystal clear at any volume.

It has new touch controls for easy access to core features like play, pause, volume adjustment and track change. The Play:5 will play nicely with all Sonos smart speakers in a multi-room setup and provides greater modularity as it has the ability to act as rear speakers in a home theater setup coupled with the PLAYBAR and SUB.
