The TV industry is well aware by now that traditional cable TV subscriptions just won’t cut it anymore, countless people are giving up on those subscriptions for online services that don’t require any commitments and can be paid for on a month-to-month basis with no setup and equipment costs. That’s why we’ve seen many online TV streaming services pop up over the past year or so, PlayStation Vue is Sony’s contender, and today it has nabbed a big content deal which brings ABC, Disney and ESPN to the service.

Sling TV is another online TV streaming service but while it costs less than the Vue, Sony’s service offers a greater number of channels, and today’s deal makes PlayStation Vue seem like a viable cable replacement.

ESPN has confirmed today that it has inked a deal with Sony which brings ABC, ABC Family, Disney Channel and ESPN to PlayStation Vue. All ESPN channels are included in this deal, such as ESPN2 and ESPNU. ABC affiliate stations will also have the opportunity to opt-in to the service with their live linear programming.

The deal means that Vue now offers live streaming of all four big networks in the United States, CBS, Fox and NBC have already been present on the service, a major reason why it’s more expensive than Sling TV. This deal also brings on-demand content from ESPN and Disney networks, subscribers will be able to catch up on shows that have been aired over the past three days without having to tap into Vue’s cloud-based DVR service.

Today’s announcement doesn’t say when these channels will go live on PlayStation Vue, the service costs $50 per month and is available on iPad, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.
