sonos-play-1-review-12For the most part, most of our homes are designed with acoustics in mind, unless you have a room dedicated to watching movies in which chances are you might care a bit about the sound quality. So what if you’re just a regular Joe with a normal home? After all we can’t be expected to construct rooms just for listening to music, right?

The good news is that if you’re a Sonos owner, the company has recently updated its app with a feature called Trueplay. This app basically helps to tune the speakers to better suit the room it is placed in. This means that if you have the speakers placed in the corner or on bookshelves, the app will be able to help tune the speakers to allow it to sound better.

How does this work, you ask? According to Sonos’ description of Trueplay, “Trueplay uses your smartphone’s microphone to map the acoustics of the room your speaker is located in. The app then automatically tweaks the speaker’s equalization and other settings in order to deliver the best possible sound.”

It’s actually not that bad of an idea. However we should note that this only works with the Play:1, Play:3 or Play:5 speakers. If you don’t own any of those speakers then we guess you’re out of luck. In the meantime if you haven’t downloaded the Sonos app or updated it, head on over to the iTunes App Store for the details.
