Serial season 2 focuses on Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl’s story, the American soldier left his post in Afghanistan back in 2009 and ended up being captured by the Taliban.

The first episode starts off with Sarah Koenig, the host, detailing the process of Bergdahl’s return to the United States which involved a swap of five prisoners from Guantanamo Bay with the Taliban.

It then moves on to questions about whether or not Bergdahl could be considered a deserter for leaving his post. He has since been charged with “misbehavior before the enemy” as well as with desertion, but a decision on whether or not he will receive a court-martial is yet to be made.
