jessica-jones-netflixA couple of weeks ago, it was suggested that Twitter wanted to display your tweets alongside ads. Basically if you were praising a product or service, Twitter could be interested in showing your tweets with the ad, kind of like you’re endorsing it. Given that tweets are public, this might not be much of an issue.

However according to Re/code, Nielsen has something similar planned that some of you guys might be uncomfortable with. Basically the company wants to know what you’re talking about when it comes to TV, and based on that it will create new social TV rankings that will incorporate Facebook data.

For example if you were to post a message or a link on your friend’s wall raving about this TV show you’ve started watching, Nielsen wants to take that into account. Note that Nielsen won’t be spying on you per se, but rather Facebook will be gathering the information on their behalf and giving it to Nielsen, all packaged up in aggregate form.

We suppose in a way this will help content creators have a slightly more intimate knowledge of what works and what doesn’t, as opposed to relying purely on viewing numbers, but at the same time we can imagine that some users might consider this a violation of their privacy, but what do you guys think?
