It has been a couple of weeks since LG unveiled its new flagship smartphone and many of the company’s fans have been looking forward to the handset’s release. LG has released a new video advertisement for the G5 which confirms the handset’s release date. Those who are looking forward to picking one up or have already placed their pre-orders will be happy to find out that LG G5 release date has been pegged at April 1st, 2016.

The new ad showcases one big feature that sets the G5 apart from competitors like the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. We see a user swapping out the handset’s modular components on the fly, the 15-second spot ends with “It’s good to play more.”

It does merit mentioning here though that the ad isn’t completely realistic because every time a modular is swapped out the handset restarts, so it does take a few seconds to get everything up and running again, may even take up to a minute if the handset has a lot of content on it.

Many carrier partners and retailers have already confirmed when they’re going to start shipping pre-ordered units. LG has announced several modules for the G5 and it has opened the platform to other developers who want to make their own modules but I don’t expect there will be many announcements on that front prior to the April 1st release.
