htc-vive-hardware_16The concept of virtual reality and several virtual reality products have been around for years, but it is safe to say that it is only in the past couple of years that developers have managed to get it right, or at least get it pretty damn close. That being said, does VR have the potential to become huge, or could it end up like 3D movies, TVs, and displays, where it feels more like a novelty?

While we suppose you might have your own opinion on that, the head of the HTC Vive in China Wang Tsung-ching was recently quoted as saying that he believes that in the next four years, VR could very well outpace the smartphone market. After all smartphones only took about 5 years before they overtook personal computer sales, so why not VR, right?

HTC themselves are in the VR game as they have recently launched the HTC Vive virtual reality headset. While there are plenty of cheaper alternatives out there, many reviews (including ours) have found that the HTC Vive offers up a pretty good experience compared to the rest of the competition, so obviously the company is onto something here.

However at the same time unlike smartphones, we don’t need VR to surf the web or listen to music, so its use might not be as ubiquitous compared to smartphones, but at the same time we guess it’s hard to deny the excitement surrounding the technology at the moment, but what say you? Will VR become a dominant piece of tech in the next 4 years or more?
