the defendersMarvel and Netflix have released two individual superhero TV series to date: Daredevil and Jessica Jones. They are expected to release Luke Cage on the 30th of September, with Iron Fist presumably set for 2017. All of this is expected to culminate in an event miniseries called The Defenders, which presumably would be released after all four characters get their own shows.

However a report from The Independent has revealed that the series could be launched earlier than we expected. This was apparently revealed by Daredevil’s lead actor Charlie Cox in which he was quoted as saying that The Defenders miniseries will begin filming in 2016. “What we do know is at the end of this year we’re going to be making The Defenders and, of course, Daredevil is very much a part of that foursome.”

As for a potential third season of Daredevil, Cox remained unsure if there will be one. The actor said, “We don’t know if there’s going to be a season three. I certainly don’t know.” He adds that maybe Daredevil’s storyline could be wrapped up in The Defenders. “In terms of wrapping up any storylines, maybe they’ll do some of that in The Defenders. Or maybe they won’t.”

While the fate of the Daredevil TV series remains uncertain, Jessica Jones has been renewed for a second season and last we heard, there were rumors about a possible Punisher TV series on Netflix as well, given how well-received Jon Bernthal’s performance was in season 2 of Daredevil.
