Asus is no stranger to making convertible notebooks, the kind of laptops that let you switch between notebook and tablet mode. The Chromebook Flip was the first device this company made that was powered by Chrome OS and offered both modes. Some evidence has surfaced which suggests that Asus could be working on another convertible Chromebook that may be launched in the coming months.
The Chromebook Flip was the first Chromebook to offer a tablet mode as well, the display could be flipped back to enable tablet mode and it was also one of the first Chrome OS devices to get support for Android apps and games this year.
If Asus comes out with another convertible Chromebook it’s not exactly going to be surprising for anybody. References have been discovered in Google’s Chromium source code which point towards a new device codenamed Cave.
The code doesn’t reveal much information about this product but does hint at a touchscreen display, tablet functionality based on the lid’s position, and the possibility that it might be powered by Intel’s 6th generation Core “Skylake” processor.
There’s no other information available right now about the specifications and features of this Chromebook. Asus hasn’t said anything itself so it’s best to take this information with a grain of salt for now.
