It has been a while since BlackBerry released a handset powered by its own BlackBerry 10 OS, so naturally, there is speculation about the future of this platform particularly when the next crop of handsets from BlackBerry is expected to run Android. It was reported yesterday that BlackBerry had sent a letter to Verizon and AT&T confirming that it had ceased production of BB10 OS devices but the company has now come out with a denial, it says no such letter has been sent to the carriers.

The report yesterday said that a memo was distributed in the United State Senate to Administrative Managers, Chief Clerks, and System Administrators which said that BlackBerry has informed Verizon and AT&T that production of all BB10 OS devices – the Q10, Z10, Z30, Passport, and Classic – has been discontinued, which is why BlackBerry handsets will now be phased out of the Senate.

In a statement issued to Crackberry, the company has said that it hasn’t halted the production of all of these handsets. It says that carrier partners in the United States were informed that only the BlackBerry Classic’s “manufacturing cycle” has been stopped, it also added that BlackBerry OS 10.3.3 is being developed for a release to existing devices next month.

BlackBerry also said that its device strategy is based on a cross-platform model which includes supporting sales of BlackBerry 10 OS devices while also selling Android-powered handsets.
