Fox today announced that it has become the first broadcast network to start live streaming its primetime programming in the United States. Those who have a cable subscription can take advantage of Fox’s primetime programming live stream on iOS and Android devices as well as Google Chromecast and Apple TV. Just to be clear, Fox hasn’t launched a standalone internet TV streaming service. A conventional cable subscription is very much required.

Folks in all 210 of the country’s TV markets will now be able to stream primetime Fox shows using the Fox Now app on iOS, Android, Apple TV, and Chromecast. The live stream will also be available via Fox.com and will feature local market advertising and station branding for each market.

Fox is going to simulcast entertainment programming online and on its app seven nights a week and also during late-night on Saturdays. It kicked off live streaming yesterday with the first live performance of So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation.

The network will simulcast all of its new fall shows as well as some of its award shows like the Teen Choice Awards in the coming months. Fox’s live stream is currently in beta and available only to those who have a cable subscription.
