Is Apple Planning On Eliminating The Headphone Jack On MacBooks?

macbook-pro-headphoneIt was a bit of a controversial move by Apple to remove the headphone jack on the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. Instead Apple seemed to promote using audio products with Lightning, which have existed for a while, or going wireless. However could Apple be thinking of doing the same to its MacBooks?

According to a survey question sent out by Apple and obtained by MacRumors, the Cupertino company seems to be taking a survey in which one of the questions asked whether or not users use the headphone port on their MacBook Pros. Now the question is innocent enough, but given the removal of the headphone port on the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, could there be more to this than we think?

Could Apple be seeing how many users actually rely on the headphone port to determine if the number is small/big enough to make some changes? That’s completely speculation on our part, but who’s to say what the future holds? As it stands Apple already caused quite a stir with the 12-inch Retina MacBook when they included only one USB-C port, so imagine the uproar it would cause if they were to remove the headphone port as well.

That being said, if and when Apple does make their move, it probably won’t be anytime soon. We have heard that Apple is planning on revamping the MacBook Pros this year, and while we have heard rumored features like Touch ID, an OLED touch panel, and a thinner chassis, headphone removal is (thankfully) not one of them.
