google-maps-speed-limitsHave you ever been pulled over for speeding and tried the old, “I did not realize I was over the speed limit” excuse? If you have, it seems that Google wants to make that excuse a little harder to pull off in the future, especially if you’re using Google Maps to navigate your way to a particular location.

As spotted by the folks on Reddit (via Droid-Life), it seems that Google Maps might have gotten a little update as users are now reporting that speed limits are now showing up while using Google Maps to navigate, which you can see for yourself in the screenshot above. It does not appear to have been enabled for all users, so perhaps this feature is being rolled out slowly.

It is unclear as to what the full features of this speed limit display is, but from what we can tell it just shows you the speed limits of the road you are travelling on. We’re not sure if it will actually warn drivers if they’re over the limit, a feature that Waze has built into it, but it would be a pretty convenient feature to have to avoid getting pulled over for speeding.

This is a feature that Waze has had for a while now so it’s good to see that Google has incorporated it into Google Maps for those who don’t use Waze. Like we said, it doesn’t appear to have been enabled for all users, but keep an eye out for it as it should eventually find its way to you.
