metal_gear_survive_6Last month Konami announced a new Metal Gear title in the form of Metal Gear Survive. We suppose under normal circumstances it would have been just another game announcement, but given how Konami and Hideo Kojima parted ways, it was a bit surprising to learn that Konami was quick to announce a new Metal Gear title.

There were some rumors to suggest that Kojima actually came up with Metal Gear Survive, but during a Q&A session at the Tokyo Game Show, Kojima shut those rumors down. “It has nothing to do [with me]. I know absolutely nothing about it. That’s because it’s totally unrelated to me, right?”

He also adds that because the game pretty much lacks the elements that made Metal Gear the franchise it is today, such as stealth, it clearly shows that he had no involvement whatsoever. “Um, how should I put this? Well, for me, Metal [Gear] is espionage with political fiction. Right? So, because of that, there’s no reason that zombies would show up. This is how I see it, you know?”

It will be interesting to see how Metal Gear Survive pans out, especially since future Metal Gear titles from here on out will be without Kojima’s involvement. In the meantime Kojima is working on a new game of his own called Death Stranding which will see him reunite with The Walking Dead actor, Norman Reedus.
