YouTube has had support for 4K video streaming for a few years now but the online video platform is finally bringing support for it to its live streaming component. YouTube live streams can now be broadcast in 4K. This isn’t just limited to standard videos. Even 360-degree videos can be live streamed in gorgeous 4K, the company has confirmed earlier today.
YouTube has been hard at work improving its video offerings. It recently added support for HDR as well. The first YouTube live stream to showcase 4K streaming support is the Game Awards which start tomorrow at 6 pm ET on YouTube.
YouTube might be hoping to get a leg up on its rivals by providing users with ultra-high quality live video. The live streaming market is quite competitive as it is with players like Facebook and Twitter. As live streaming takes off, viewers will certainly want the best possible quality, or as much as their devices will afford them.
Granted, smartphones are yet to feature 4K displays and not everyone has a PC or a notebook with such a high resolution display, but there are people who will take advantage of YouTube’s support for 4K live streaming video. Besides that, it gives YouTube the advantage of taking things up a notch before its competitors have a chance.
